CELLULITE FACTS + MYTHS

  • Cellulite is a harmless but frustrating skin condition characterized by dimpled, lumpy flesh on the hips, thighs, abdomen and buttocks. The condition is more common in women compared to men. Cellulite appears like bumpy or dimpled skin and is often described as having an orange peel- or cottage cheese-like skin texture.

Mild cellulite is only visible when you pinch the skin area with cellulite, like the thighs or buttocks. However, severe cellulite makes the skin look bumpy or rumpled with areas of peaks and troughs. While cellulite is mostly found in the thigh and buttock areas, it may also occur on the upper arms, breasts, and lower abdomen.

  • Below are five common myths about Cellulite along with their corresponding facts:

Cellulite is Only Excess Fat: While cellulite comprises fat, it is not the only thing responsible for cellulite. There are connective fibres that attach the skin to the muscles. When fat gathers between these layers, it forces the skin upward, whereas the connective fibres pull the skin downward. This creates pockets of fat that make the skin appear dimpled, resulting in cellulite.

Only Overweight Individuals Get Cellulite: Cellulite is quite common and around 80% to 90% of women have it (even men too!). People of all colours, shapes and sizes, and even thin individuals, may have cellulite.

Men Don’t Get Cellulite: Many more women, compared to men (90% vs. 10%) struggle with cellulite. However, cellulite is not limited to the female gender. Men too have cellulite, usually on the upper thighs, but it may also occur on the upper arms, abdomen, and other areas on the body.

Topical Creams Can Reduce Cellulite: Some topical gels, creams and ointments may help keep the skin moisturised and temporarily smooth the skin’s appearance, they cannot address the underlying structural problems that lead to the lumps and dimples, related to cellulite.

Supportive Clothing Could Diminish Cellulite: Compressive clothing, like heavy nylon, may reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily. However, once the clothing is removed, the cellulite will reappear unaltered.

  • The Rainforest MediSpa Cellulite treatment combines two powerful technologies to give you the best opportunity to reduce the appearance of your cellulite.

The treatment starts with C£ Lipo Cavitation (fat melting) followed by a powerful vacuum system to reduce the appearance of cellulite; boost blood circulation and improve lymphatic drainage which helps to eliminate waste and excess fluids from the body. Keeping your lymphatic system moving is a key way to tackle cellulite and remove pockets of lymphatic fluid that have become lodged under the skins surface.

  • As this is a non-invasive treatment, there is little to no downtime. There is the possibility of bruising in the days after the treatment.

  • The vacuum element of the treatment is powerful suction that helps move your lymphatic fluid away from your trouble area for your liver to dispose of. Clients can experience some discomfort here but we work with you to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.

  • We recommend a course of 6 treatments to achieve best results, carried out approximately one week apart.

  • In short, yes - lifestyle changes can help reduce the visibility of cellulite but lifestylle changes alone will not change this skin condition. Teaming lifestyle changes with this treatment gives you a good opportunity to achieve smooth skin.

Here are some lifestyle changes that may help reduce the appearance of your cellulite:

Exercise: Being physically active may help reduce the appearance of cellulite by boosting the blood flow and tightening the skin.

Body Fat Reduction: Cellulite is a condition where fat deposits under the skin leading to the surface of the skin appearing dimpled. While it is not necessarily harmful to a person’s health, many women find it distressing. Reducing the amount of total body fat by natural means can help reduce the visibility of cellulite.

Hydration: Hydration helps keep the skin plump and healthy. Keeping yourself hydrated may cause cellulite to be less visible.

Nutrient-Rich Diet: Make healthy changes to your diet. A balanced diet, rich in nutrients will allow your body to work as it should be, while promoting cell regeneration and the production of collagen fibres.

Dry Brushing: While this technique hasn’t been proven scientifically, many anecdotal accounts depict that it works for some people. It helps reduce cellulite by stimulating lymph flow and improving circulation to the skin’s surface.
